38th ANNUAL “CITY GAME”
TO TAKE PLACE APRIL 15 2008
The 38th Annual “City Game” will be held at John
Jay College, 445 West 59th Street, April 17,
beginning at 6 p.m. with the girl’s game,
followed at 8 p.m. by the boy’s game.
The City Game was started in the early 70’s as a
showcase All-Star event for the best New York
high school basketball players with qualifying
GPA’s and SAT’s scores. The Game is a platform
for student/athletes to get scholarships into
colleges and universities across the country,
and also helps to raise funds on behalf of the
more than 10,000 young people the Sports
Foundation serves in the greater New York City
area. Many of the former participants, including
Len Elmore, Bernard King, Mike Dunleavy, Rolando
Blackman, and World B. Free, had outstanding
college and professional careers.
The Sports Foundation, located in the South
Bronx, is a not-for-profit 501 C(3) community
based corporation established in 1969 as a model
youth organization that utilizes sports,
leadership and program participation as a
vehicle to foster youth involvement in
anti-substance abuse educational, cultural and
positive alternative activities. |
