Youth Services

Education and Career Development
SFI provides remedial and advanced academics support / tutoring services, career development programs. SAT and college preparatory programs, financial aid information, educational seminars, peer education, vocational training referrals, computer training, alternative careers in sports, cultural awareness events and physical education activities.

Drug Abuse Prevention / Health Awareness
SFI provides substance abuse counseling, referrals for health consultation, HIV/AIDS awareness programs and environmental community health activities. We also sponsor street and health fairs throughout the community The foundation participated in collaborative efforts led by Congressman Jose E. Serrano, for the South Bronx Environmental Medicine’s Nelson Institute of Environmental Medicine’s Nelson Institute of Environmental medicine (NIEM) and the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service’s Institute for Civil Infrastructure Systems (ICIS) to study environmental and health issues affecting the South Bronx community.

Positive Alternatives
SFI’s Positive Alternative Program provides young people with positive experiences that will enhance their education and promote long-term success and stability. SFI sports and activates in this program are designed to complement other direct services and include The 5-Spot Dream Academy, Summer Youth Olympics, No Workshops/No Jump Shots programs, the annual basketball scholarship opportunities, “City Game.” The Exceptional Senior Girls Basketball Game, the Exceptional Senior Boys and Girls Volleyball games, the Martial Arts Little League, the Soccer Instructional Series, as well as, a variety of other regular sports workshops and special events.

Counseling and Mentoring
Counseling services are available to all SFI youth. Our youth demonstrate a wide range of at-risk behaviors such as drug use, maladaptive behaviors, academic difficulties, poor coping skills, etc. SFI’s staff of counselors and specialists provides individual, group and family counseling, case management, crisis and life stabilization services, social skill and peer leadership development groups.
